22 张大阿卡纳从 0 号"愚者"(The Fool)开始,到 21 号"世界"(The World)结束,构成了一段完整的灵性旅程,被称为"愚者之旅"(The Fool's Journey)。

(Visual Reading)

(Elemental Interaction)

3. 数字学(Numerology)

(Story Line)

Tarot Guide

A complete, beginner-to-advanced guide to tarot reading: the 78-card structure, how to ask powerful questions, the drawing ritual, upright & reversed meanings, spread selection, and interpretation craft. Rooted in the classical tarot tradition.

1. Tarot Basics: What Is Tarot

Tarot is a deck of cards that originated in 15th-century Europe, first used for games and later — from the 18th century onward — adopted for spiritual exploration, self-reflection, and symbolic interpretation. A standard deck contains 78 cards divided into two groups: the Major Arcana (22 cards) and the Minor Arcana (56 cards). "Arcana" comes from the Latin arcanus, meaning "secret" — each card carries the cipher of an archetype or situation in life.

Major Arcana: Life's Defining Themes

The 22 Major Arcana run from 0, The Fool, to 21, The World, forming a complete spiritual journey known as The Fool's Journey. They represent life's pivotal turning points and archetypes: The Fool = new beginnings, The Magician = conscious creation, The High Priestess = intuition and hidden wisdom, Wheel of Fortune = the turning of fate, Death = transformation and rebirth, The World = fulfilled completion. When a reading is dominated by Major Arcana, it usually signals that you are at a defining threshold of life.

Minor Arcana: The Detail of Daily Life

The 56 Minor Arcana are divided into four suits of 14 cards each (Ace through 10, plus Page, Knight, Queen, King). Each suit corresponds to an element and reflects a specific dimension of daily experience:

  • Wands 🔥 — Fire: action, passion, career, inspiration
  • Cups 💧 — Water: emotion, relationships, the subconscious, intuition
  • Swords ⚔️ — Air: thought, communication, conflict, decision
  • Pentacles 🪙 — Earth: matter, money, health, tangible achievement

The Court Cards (Page, Knight, Queen, King) often represent a personality type, a role in your life, or a mode of behavior — they are key for identifying "who" is involved in a reading.

Memory hook

Major Arcana = the main storyline of life; Minor Arcana = the side quests of daily existence. A complete reading weaves both together.

2. How to Ask

The quality of your question determines the quality of your reading. Tarot is a mirror — the angle of your question decides what the mirror reflects. The same dilemma, asked as "Will I lose my job?" versus "How should I respond to my current career uncertainty?" will yield readings of completely different depth.

Open-Ended vs. Yes/No

  • Open-ended questions (recommended): start with "how, why, what do I need to see, what should I focus on." These let tarot unfold across multiple dimensions. Example: "What do I need to see in this relationship?"
  • Yes/No questions (use sparingly): start with "will, does, can." Useful when you need a quick decision, but the answers tend to be brief and lack guidance. Use a dedicated Yes/No spread for these.

Best Practices for Asking

  1. Replace "Will I..." with "How should I..." or "What do I need to focus on..."
  2. Focus on what you can influence, not on others' choices. "How can I improve communication with him?" beats "Does he still love me?"
  3. Avoid stacking multiple questions. One question per reading — let each card position have a clear meaning.
  4. Avoid "when" questions — tarot maps energy, not precise calendar dates.

Preparing Your State of Mind

Before drawing, take 30 seconds for a simple breath practice: inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 4, exhale for 6. Repeat 3 times. This shifts your mindset from "needing an answer now" to "willing to hear an inner truth." If you are highly emotional (angry, deeply sad), wait until you've calmed down — strong emotion distorts the question and skews the interpretation toward extremes.

Example contrast

Will I get back together with my ex?

What is the real need beneath my fixation on this past relationship?

Will I make big money next month?

Over the next month, what opportunities and blind spots should I watch for financially?

3. The Drawing Ritual

A complete tarot reading has four steps. Online readings automate the shuffle and cut, but understanding each step helps you enter the right state of mind.

1
Shuffle
Silently repeat your question, connecting energy to the deck
2
Cut
Split and rejoin the deck, surrendering to fate
3
Draw
Pull the cards one by one into the spread positions
4
Interpret
Read by position, suit, orientation, and storyline

1. Shuffle

No need for elaborate technique — the key is to keep silently repeating your question as you shuffle. Offline, shuffle for 1–2 minutes, or until it "feels right to stop." Online, the shuffle button is your moment of focus — don't skip past it.

2. Cut

Split the deck into 2–3 piles and rejoin them in any order. This gesture symbolizes handing the decision back to fate, preventing the reader from consciously controlling the outcome. Online, this step is automated.

3. Draw

According to your chosen spread, draw cards from the top of the deck and place them in order. Position meanings are strict — in Past·Present·Future, the first card is always Past, the second Present, the third Future. Once placed, positions cannot be swapped.

4. Interpret

Don't read cards in isolation. First scan the whole layout to take in the first impression (color, mood, ratio of upright to reversed), then read card by card, and finally weave them into a single story. This is the step beginners most often skip — and the one that matters most.

Tip

Make sure your question is clearly stated and submitted before drawing. Changing the question requires starting a brand-new reading — you cannot "swap mid-flow."

4. Upright & Reversed Meanings

Each card can appear in one of two orientations: Upright or Reversed. A reversed card is not a "bad card" — it is the same energy expressed in a different state.

Upright: Energy flowing freely

Upright means the card's energy is expressing in its natural, original form. Strength upright = inner courage that bends force with grace is being exercised; Three of Pentacles upright = collaboration is flowing, skill is being recognized.

Reversed: Blocked or excessive energy

A reversed card usually points to one of three states:

  • Blocked: the energy cannot release; the block needs to be located. The Emperor reversed = authority frustrated or control slipping.
  • Excessive: the energy is overloaded and needs restraint. Seven of Swords reversed = deceptive energy overreaching and backfiring.
  • Internalized: the energy has turned inward and isn't visible outwardly. The Sun reversed = inner joy not yet expressed.
Important mindset

There is no "good vs. bad" in upright vs. reversed. Death upright isn't necessarily good; The Sun reversed isn't a disaster — they only describe the state of energy. Treat reversed cards as "areas that need more attention," never as "punishments."

5. Choosing a Spread

A spread is a preset structure of card positions, each with a defined meaning. Different spreads suit different question types. The table below maps the 12 classic spreads on this site to their ideal scenarios:

ScenarioSpreadCardsStrength

Difficult crossroadsDiamond4Clarifying a dilemma
Selection principle

Simple question, simple spread; complex situation, deep spread. Don't use 10 cards to answer a 1-card question just to "look professional" — more cards dilute the focus rather than sharpen it.

6. Interpretation Craft

A systematic reading follows a four-layer structure from surface to depth:

1. Visual Reading

Start by simply looking at the images: figure orientation, color palette, posture, recurring symbols. If multiple figures face away from the viewer, "avoidance" may be a theme. If water appears across many cards, emotion is the main thread.

2. Elemental Interaction

Count the distribution of the four elements in this reading. More Fire = action and conflict dominate; more Water = emotion and intuition dominate; more Air = thought and communication dominate; more Earth = matter and reality dominate. A missing element is equally telling — it points to a neglected dimension.

3. Numerology

The numbers 1–10 in the Minor Arcana each carry meaning: 1 = beginning, 2 = choice, 3 = collaboration, 4 = stability, 5 = conflict, 6 = harmony, 7 = reflection, 8 = movement, 9 = near completion, 10 = cyclical ending. Court Cards represent stages of personal development.

4. Story Line

Connect all cards by their positions into a coherent narrative, not a list of keywords. In Past·Present·Future, for example: Past = Three of Swords (wounded) → Present = Strength (learning grace under pressure) → Future = Six of Cups (warmth regained). The story becomes "from pain, through inner growth, to emotional healing."

How to weave multiple cards together

  • Contrast: do adjacent cards flow together or clash? The clash is usually the key.
  • Anchor card: find a "protagonist" (usually a Major Arcana or a recurring suit) and read everything else in relation to it.
  • Upright/Reversed gap: for a reversed card, imagine its upright version — the gap is what needs to be restored.

7. Common Myths

Myth 1: Tarot predicts destiny
Tarot maps your current energy and latent trends — not a fixed future. Your actions can shift the trajectory, which is exactly what makes it useful for reflection.
Myth 2: Drawing "Death" means someone dies
Death symbolizes transformation, endings, and rebirth — almost never physical death. It usually marks the natural close of a relationship, phase, or old pattern.
Myth 3: "The Tower" means disaster
The Tower represents sudden revelation and the collapse of unstable structures — often an epiphany rather than destruction. It breaks the old shell so growth can occur.
Myth 4: Reversed = bad card
Reversed simply means the energy is blocked, excessive, or internalized. It's a "pay attention" signal, not a punishment. Many reversed cards are gentle warnings.
Myth 5: More cards = more accurate
Complex spreads add dimensions but also dilute focus. Simple spreads are often more accurate for simple questions.
Myth 6: Repeating a reading clarifies it
Repeating the same question in a short window only produces noise. Wait at least 1 month, or until the situation has meaningfully changed.
Entertainment notice

Tarot is fundamentally a tool for self-reflection and inspiration — not a prophecy, and not a substitute for medical, legal, or financial advice. Treat it as "a mirror that responds to you," never as "a verdict."

8. Ethics & Boundaries

Responsible tarot practice has clear boundaries. Whether you read for yourself or others, the following principles apply:

  • Not a substitute for professional advice: medical, legal, financial, and therapeutic questions belong to licensed professionals. Tarot can complement reflection, but should never be the sole basis for a decision.
  • Respect free will: a reading shows "what may unfold if the current energy continues." The querent always has the right and ability to choose differently.
  • No third-party readings without consent: do not read about an absent person's private affairs without their explicit permission, and never use tarot to pry into others' secrets.
  • Do not manufacture fear: focus interpretation on "understanding and action," not on amplifying anxiety. When cards look "bad," guide the querent toward the possible transformation.
  • Caution with minors: this service is for users aged 18 and above. Readings for minors should be done with a guardian present.
  • Privacy first: all reading records are stored only in your local browser — no one else can view them, and they are never publicly linked to your real identity.
A final word

Tarot is neither superstition nor science — it is an ancient craft of "externalizing the subconscious as images." When you are willing to ask honestly, listen openly, and act responsibly, tarot becomes a true companion rather than a fortune-telling toy.
